In The Pines New Record!

So over the weekend I got in my copy of the debut cd from Kansas City's own In The Pines. I've heard from a lot of people who really enjoyed the demos from my previous post on them, so I couldn't pass up the chance to share a couple of the final products.

I've been trying to figure just who I could rightly compare them to, since that's what we bloggers love to do for some reason unbeknownst to me, so here's the best I can do - Damien Rice meets Wilco. Despite having such...uh...RURAL backgrounds, they manage to veer off into lovely jams that sometimes feel even a bit ambient. I very rarely ever am able to sit down and do nothing but listen to an album straight thru, but I MADE the time to finish this one out.

The guys and gals even won a coveted "Best of Kansas City" award for Best Local Song.

So enjoy these mp3's of the finished product, courtesy of Second Nature Recordings:
Dress On Fire (HIGHEST Recommendation!)
Never Say Too Much (Highly Recommended)

And go order the record HERE.

By the way, I'll probably be heading out to see them live on Nov. 18th at Davey's Uptown with American Catastrophe so if I'm able to make it I'll try to do some sort of write up for ya.

Good grief man, I'm not so stupid as to think that everyone has to like the same things as I do. Did you not even read the comment? It's one thing to say that you don't like the Beatles, quite another to not acknowledge their contribution to music as it is today. Björk is, sadly, mostly an inspiration to 'techno-pop' artists and whatever other related genres, but I'm sure they realise she has a freaking amazing voice and IS in fact incredibly original and not just 'weird'. How dissmissive can you be? And what a bland and hollow statement.

so you want me to acknowledge that she influences crappy techno-pop music? ok. bjork influences crappy techno-pop music. what is your point? assuming that you have one, if you want to continue this asinine "conversation" you can email me.

please do not bring this into the comments here again.

You didn't even read what I wrote. You just read what you wanted into it and came up with a really inane, juvenile comment. I suppose that's all I should expect from someone who creates a blog just so he can voice to the world his own (superior) opinions on music. Perhaps you should do all of this by e-mail if you don't like your ideas to be publicly challenged.

To the Other Anonymous Poster,
Just a note- the definition for a blog is a "personal web site, of interest to the user, may include recommendations compiled by the user." So therefore, you're right AND stating the obvious- he can voice to the world his own opinions.
Personally, I believe Bjork's originality and popularity is not because of her music talent, but her fame exists simply because she's just bizarre.
So if you want to hear real music, I suggest checking out In The Pines, which is what this post is about in the first place.

I suggest that you stop suggesting things seeing as you also have this idea that bjork is 'weird'. What a dumb statement. I should listen to 'real' music eh? Another classy statement. I can't value the opinion of anyone so shallow-minded. If you don't like her music that's fine, but if you can't identify that she has something really quite amazing in her voice, be it in technique or something of more 'spiritual' value, I'm probably talking to the wrong people. As for In The Pines, well, okay, it's not displeasing, but I can immediately think of a hundred other bands they sound like. So if by 'real' you mean 'typical' then, good for you. I will admit they have some artistry but it does little for my soul. As for my comments about blogging, I was simply saying that if our laddo here doesn't want any comments or ideas to be challenged maybe he should turn posts off or just write a magazine, or perhaps delete all posts that aren't praise or agreements.

if you want to coninue this, first tell me what you want to accomplish with this. do you want me to like bjork? you say that you respect other peoples tastes and opinions but it sure doesnt sound like it.

tell me what you want to accomplish with this.

and also, if you dont respect my opinions, then why are you here?

Wow, that's a lot of suggesting there my little scrupulous anonymous posting friend. I'm glad that you find In The Pines not entirely displeasing. Whoosh- now I can sleep at night.
And yes, I think you can most definitely say you're talking to the wrong people.

First of all I'm going to ignore the last comment from my 'equally scrupulous anonymously posting friend'. You're just looking for a pointless argument rather than actually trying to debate and gain something from it. Don't Need Anything - look, I was a little harsh. Sorry. Sensitive subject. I could have been a lot more tactful. Secondly, I shall continue my comments on the actual post with Björk in it, so as not to clutter.
